This two-day course is designed specifically for new unit commanders. All unit commanders must complete the Unit Commanders Course within one year of appointment. Enrollment in this course is restricted to current commanders and potential commanders (up to one year prior to appointment). All applicants must be approved by their respective group commander. The Unit Commanders Course curriculum includes commander's responsibilities (finance, safety, legal, logistics, inspection etc.), commander's resources, dealing with difficult people, rewarding your members, and the command role. Unit commanders will be paid for by their group headquarters Application procedure: Apply on CAP eForm 17 (available at http://level2.cap.gov/documents/u_090403102950.dot). E-mail your application to your group commander, who should endorse it and forward it to Maj Earl Lewis: elewis@cawg.cap.gov. The registration fee is payable at check-in on Saturday morning, 12 April. Current unit commanders should bring a CAWGF 11, Disbursement Request, transferring the funds from their group account to the PCR-CA-001 account. Make all personnel checks payable to California Wing CAP. Application deadline is 5 April 2008 Seating is limited to 20 students. Preference will be given to current squadron commanders, then deputy commanders and those to be appointed to squadron command within the next six months. An acceptance letter with complete information will be e-mailed to all students. Billeting is available at Travis AFB, and contact information will be sent to all students. BASIC & ADVANCED COMMUNICATIONS USER TRAINING Advanced Communications User Training - completion of this course and test will qualify the attendee for a non-expiring ACUT card. ACUT is for those wishing to get their own CAP station licenses (with Yosemite call-signs), and to advance in the Communications Specialty Track as per CAPP 214. Basic Communications User Training - those who do not wish to take or pass the test will have satisfied the requirements for Basic Communications User Training, which is now a requirement for some ES Mission ratings. Be prepared to spend all day. A live radio table top exercise will be held at the conclusion of the classroom work. Lunch will be for one hour. There are several fast food restaurants on the base as well as others nearby off-base. In order to minimize delay in restarting the class, sack lunches are encouraged. Deadline for enrollment is 23 April (Wednesday). All must pre-register. Early registration is advised, since these classes fill up quickly. Seating is limited. Walk-ins will not be admitted.
