| SAN LUIS OBISPO, California ---
The Cadet Training Group has once again requested Camp San Luis Obispo as its summer home
in 2000. Plans are being made to hold the largest cadet encampment in the nation at this
Army National Guard facility. In 1999, over 350 basic cadets and Advanced Training cadets
graduated from this rigorous experience. Major Kathriner, the encampment commander, said
"Because of some exciting innovations, this year's encampment promises to be
"the best ever" in California Wing". He also pointed out that cadets in
Civil Air Patrol cadets are required to attend an encampment as a prerequisite for
attaining the coveted General Billy Mitchell Award and attaining cadet officer status. |
| This years challenging
encampment will include:Orientation Flights in CAP and Military Aircraft
M-16 Orientation Firing Range
Military Obstacle Course
Cadet Physical Fitness Test
Drill and Volleyball competitions
Barracks Training
Military Career Fair

From the moment you arrive, you'll start learning your memory work. |
 |
Encampment includes Orientation Flights. |
 |
Your Flight Commander will check to make sure that you do everything properly. |
 |
And there is a proper way to do everything... Even a proper way to place your
socks in a drawer. |
 |
When all the cadets assemble at Perlee theatre, it's an impressive sight. |
 |
The First Sergeants and Sergeant Major have the honor of serving as the color guard at
closing ceremonies. |
 |
California Wing Encampment gives you an opportunity to participate in large
formations. |
 |
Moral leadership is conducted at Perlee Theatre. |
 |
Every morning, rain or shine, cadets perform PT. |
 |
Cadets learn firearm safety. These cadets are in the photo opportunity area
practicing their grips on M-16 rifles prior to going to the actual range. |
 |
The Cadet Physical Fitness test is conducted for every cadet. These young men
are having their flexibility measured during the "sit and reach." |
 |
Some final tidying up is always a good idea prior to inspection. |
 |
Cadets proudly display their targets after their trip to the M-16 range. |
 |
T Shirts must be rolled into tight little tubes. Here the flight staff
demonstrates how it is done. |
 |
Running the obstacle course is always popular. |
